Requirements

  • Possess some prior exposure to Asian culture, China, Taoism, etc.

    • This is NOT a trip for first-timers to Asia

  • Above the age of 18 

  • Must have a Valid Passport and Chinese Visa for the duration of your stay

  • Cleared for international travel 

  • No history of violence, felonies, or crimes

  • Is in good physical and mental health (physican’s report required)

  • Able to do moderate to heavy physical work for short periods of time

  • No smoking, drinking, alcohol, or recreational drug use of any kind

    • Absolutely no cologne, perfume or artifical fragrances

  • Can survive on Vegetarian/Vegan diet strictly for the duration of your stay

  • Not Arachnophobic (this is a forest.)

  • Comfortable being Quiet and Alone

  • Possess good judgment and willingness to try new things out of your comfort zone.

  • No clothing, banners, or markings that are extremely bright, violent, revealing, discrimintory or denouncing in nature.

Considerations 

  • You can Survive in temperate to tropical climates with varying intensities of humidity

  • Food - EXTREMELY rural area where all meals are traditional, ethnic Chinese. 

  • Beds are very tough - wooden boards with two thin layers of cotton. 

  • Constant Water and Electricity are inconsistent​

    • ​Do NOT expect daily showers

    • Do NOT expect a brogramming command center

  • Check your Credit Card or Health Insurance provider if they cover International in case of emergency

  • Try and have at least 500 RMB in spare, emergency spending cash or more if you choose to donate to the temple at the end of your stay.

  • Bring clothes that dry quickly both from sweat and in the sun – there are no dryer machines.

  • You may have a roommate

  • Be respectful of the religion even if you are unfamiliar with it. 

  • Do NOT take photos of the Monks, Deities or other stelae without expressed permission

 

You May want to bring your own:

  • Tea cup. You will have LOTS of tea – are you ok with caffeine?

  • Linens, shower/bed slippers, towels, etc.

  • Books for reading

  • Flashlight that works

  • Empty Journal for Writing

  • Chinese dictionary if you are not a native/fluent speaker
